How fast is 100 Mbps internet?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) considers internet speeds above 25 Mbps to be high speed. To help put speed in perspective, the FCC estimates that streaming a high-definition movie requires a download speed of 5 to 8 Mbps, and streaming an Ultra HD 4K movie requires 25 Mbps. Don’t forget to factor in the combined usage of everyone in your household. With 100 Mbps internet, one to four people may be able to work from home, stream movies, and do some gaming. However, if you connect more than five devices at a time, you may experience lag when you’re watching a movie or surfing the web. Consider one of our larger plans, such as the Streamer & Gamer 200 Plus plan.
Is 350 GB enough data?
Use our data calculator to determine how much data you need, and factor in the combined data usage of everyone in your household. We estimate it requires 6 GB of data to stream a high-definition movie and 1 GB of data to game for an hour. If you think you may exceed 350 GB of data, consider upgrading to our unlimited data plan for $40 a month.
What’s the difference between upload speed and download speed?
Upload speed describes how fast you can send data from your computer’s network to another internet location. You rely on upload speed when you use video chat, livestream video, or upload high-resolution images. Download speed describes how fast you can receive data. You rely on download speed when you surf the web, read emails, and stream movies.
Is the Starter 100 Plus plan good for gamers?
It depends on how many gamers you have in your house, what kind of games you like to play, and which devices you use at the same time. For example, if more than one member of your household plays first-person shooter (FPS) or massively multiplayer online (MMO) games and livestreams video at the same time, you may prefer a speedier plan with more data. Consider our Turbo 300 Plus plan or our GigaONE Plus plan.
Can I run a security system with the Starter 100 Plus plan?
It may be possible depending on your other usage. However, if multiple people use your internet connection and you have many other connected devices, you may want to opt for a plan with a higher upload speed to make sure your security cameras capture, save, and store every second of important footage.
