How to Get the Most from Your Home Wi-Fi

May 24, 2025

When your family’s all online at once — streaming, gaming, working, and learning — even fast internet can sometimes feel slower than it should. A few simple adjustments can help you optimize your home Wi-Fi for better performance and fewer interruptions.

Start with the Basics:

  • Check Connections
Make sure all cables are securely connected to your modem and router. A loose connection can cause slow speeds or dropped service.
  • Restart Equipment
Unplug your modem and router for 30 seconds, then plug them back in. A quick restart can refresh your network and clear minor glitches.
  • Reposition Your Router
Place your router in a central, open location, away from walls and other electronics that can block or weaken the signal. Since most modems broadcast slightly downward, keeping your equipment off the floor will help extend coverage.

Still Having Issues? Try These Tips:

  • Remove Old Devices
Outdated phones, tablets, or laptops can slow down your network. Disconnect or upgrade older devices that may be hogging bandwidth.
  • Adjust Wi-Fi Settings
Like radios, Wi-Fi routers use channels that can get crowded. You can often boost speed by switching to a less congested one. Log into your router’s settings (you’ll find the IP address on the device) or use its app. Try channels 1, 6, or 11 on 2.4 GHz, or switch to 5 GHz or 6 GHz for better performance.
  • Extend Your Reach
If you have a larger home or hard-to-reach areas, consider Wi-Fi extenders or mesh systems to improve coverage and eliminate dead zones.

Upgrade to Intelligent Wi-Fi

That’s where Sparklight’s Intelligent WiFi powered by eero comes in. This advanced mesh Wi-Fi system automatically adapts to your home, delivering fast, consistent coverage in every corner — no guesswork required. It also includes built-in security features and parental controls, all managed easily through the eero app.

With so many connected devices, optimizing your Wi-Fi can feel overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be. Sparklight Intelligent Wi-Fi helps you stay connected, confident, and in control of your home network.
