Sparklight Awards $8,400 to Sherman Nonprofits

 

SHERMAN, Texas (Jan. 7, 2025)Sparklight®, a leading broadband provider, recently awarded grants totaling $8,400 to Meals on Wheels of Texoma and Fairview Elementary School through the company’s Charitable Giving FundThe organizations were two of 24 nonprofits across Sparklight’s 24-state footprint that received grants totaling more than $125,000 during the most recent award period. Sparklight awarded a $5,000 Charitable Giving Fund grant to Meals on Wheels of Texoma previously in spring 2023.

The Charitable Giving Fund, which awards $250,000 in grants annually, concentrates support in the following priority areas:

This grant season, Sparklight also extended support to organizations devoted to veterans’ outreach, elder care, afterschool programs, community safety, animal advocacy and more.

“Sparklight is proud to support the nonprofits that make a meaningful difference in our community,” said Kenny Walker, Sparklight Senior Regional Director South Central. “These organizations are essential to strengthening the cities and towns we serve, and we are grateful for the opportunity to amplify their efforts. Together, we can bring vital resources and support to those who need it most.”

Meals on Wheels of Texoma will use its $5,000 grant to support its central kitchen capital improvement project, increasing production capacity to meet growing needs.

Greg Pittman, Meals on Wheels of Texoma CEO. “These strategic investments ensure the long-term sustainability of our operations, enabling us to better serve current and future needs of our community. Sparklight’s grant will have an impact for years to come.”

Fairview Elementary School will use its $3,400 grant to integrate Sphero robots into the science curriculum to enhance students’ learning experiences, foster creativity and encourage critical-thinking skills. The robots will also provide young students with an opportunity to learn coding.

“I am incredibly grateful to Sparklight for its generous grant to Fairview Elementary,” said Rebecca Nash, Fairview Elementary School Instructional Technology Specialist. “This funding will significantly enhance STEM/robotics opportunities, providing students with invaluable hands-on learning. With this support, we are empowering the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. Thank you, Sparklight, for helping us foster a brighter future for our students.”

Nonprofit organizations may apply for a grant during open application periods each spring and fall. Applications for spring 2025 grants will be accepted between April 1-30, 2025.
