Sparklight Associates Honor 9/11 Victims Through Volunteerism at Prescott Valley Healing Field
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (Sept. 10, 2025) – Sparklight® associates paid tribute to 9/11 victims by joining the community to install flags at the Prescott Valley Healing Field, as they’ve done each year since the memorial’s inception in 2012. The annual display of 2,977 U.S. flags commemorates the Americans and first responders who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Prescott Valley Healing Field aims to bring northern Arizona residents together in an atmosphere of optimism and healing. Each installed flagpole includes information about the victims, with teddy bears on flags in memory of children and boots at the base of those for fallen firefighters, police or military. The display also includes 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot flags honoring the wildland firefighters who perished in the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30, 2013.
Sparklight volunteers included Mike Heddens, Director of Field Operations, Southwest, who has participated in the installation for the past 13 years. Lou Westall, Headend Technician, and Anne-Marie Szabo, Business Account Executive, also assisted and have been longtime volunteers.
“This memorial continues to be a powerful reminder of the extraordinary courage shown on Sept. 11,” said Heddens. “To return year after year and stand alongside our community in honoring these heroes’ lives is humbling beyond words. It’s a privilege to be part of this meaningful tradition.”
Jay Macleod, Sparklight Senior Regional Director, Southwest, said the Healing Field honors all those who sacrifice in service to others.
“Sparklight is honored to join with our neighbors in ensuring these stories of bravery and resilience are never forgotten,” he said.
The Healing Field will be open to the public through Friday at the Civic Center Lawn located at 7501 E. Skoog Blvd. in Prescott Valley. A 9/11 Patriot Day Ceremony will be held at the Civic Center Amphitheater at 6 p.m. Thursday. Learn more at www.healingfieldpv.com.
